An icon of martial arts cinema, Chia-Liang Liu was born in 1936 in Guangzhou, China. His active years spanned from 1963 to 1994, during which he demonstrated his mastery in the genre of martial arts, with his most famous films including "The 36th Chamber of Shaolin" and "Legend of the Drunken Master." Despite not receiving any major film festival awards, Liu is celebrated for his unique authorial style that combined intense fight choreography with elements of slapstick comedy. Known for his impeccable storytelling, Liu had a knack for bringing out the poetry in violence, and his films never ceased to carry a human touch, making him a true master of his craft.
