Ewald André Dupont

A trailblazer of early German cinema, Ewald André Dupont was born in 1891 in Zeitz, Germany. Working actively from 1911 until his death in 1956, he directed numerous films mainly in the genres of drama and romance, with his most famous works being "Varieté" (1925) and "Moulin Rouge" (1928), though he never received any awards at major film festivals. His authorial style was characterized by his pioneering use of unchained camera technique and dramatic lighting that influenced German expressionist cinema.
