Hajime Ôtani

Hajime Ôtani, the maestro of Japanese cinematography, was born in 1944 in Hiroshima, Japan. His directing career spanned from 1971 to 1999, mainly focused on the drama genre, with his most notable works being "Farewell to the Land" and "Toki rakujitsu". Unfortunately, Ôtani's work didn't garner major awards at international film festivals, but he is highly respected for his authentic storytelling and insightful depictions of post-war Japan. From a deeper perspective, Hajime Ôtani is a poignant visual poet, whose craft was deeply rooted in the soul and psyche of his homeland.
