Hassan Akkad, the resilient voice of the displaced. Born in 1985 in Damascus, Syria, Akkad became active in the filmmaking realm in the late 2010s, primarily focusing on the documentary genre. His most notable works include "Exodus: Our Journey to Europe" which won him a BAFTA Television Craft Award in 2017, and his recent work "The Garden" which sheds light on the Syrian refugee crisis. While his authorial style often involves a raw, personal perspective on the harsh realities of the refugee experience, it is always marked by an underlying sense of hope and resilience.
