Helen Hill, the charming force of independent animation and documentary cinema, was born in 1970 in Columbia, South Carolina, USA. She was active from 1990 until her untimely death in 2007 and is best known for her work in independent animation and experimental documentary genres, with notable films including "Madame Winger Makes a Film" and "Scratch and Crow". Despite her short career, her unique authorial style, which often incorporated handcrafted elements and a sense of whimsy, won her numerous awards including the Best Experimental Film at the New Orleans Film Festival.
