Isao Takahata

A mastermind behind some of Japan's most cherished animated films, Isao Takahata was born in 1935 in Ise, Mie, Japan. His active years spanned from 1961 to 2018, during which he excelled in directing anime films in the drama and fantasy genres, most notably "Grave of the Fireflies", "Only Yesterday", and "The Tale of the Princess Kaguya", the latter earning him an Academy Award nomination. Takahata's authorial style is characterized by his ability to weave in deep emotional narratives with stunning visuals, setting his work apart in the world of animation.
