Italian maestro of the macabre, Mario Bava, was born in 1914, in San Remo, Italy, and was actively directing films from 1943 to 1977. Working predominantly in horror, fantasy, and giallo genres, Bava's most renowned films include "Black Sunday" (1960), "The Girl Who Knew Too Much" (1963), and "Bay of Blood" (1971), although he never garnered awards at major film festivals. His authorial style is characterized by atmospheric and richly textured visuals, inventive camera work, and a predilection for the psychedelic and surreal.

Bava was a true artist, transforming low-budget productions into influential masterpieces with his innovative aesthetics and vivid imagination, and continues to be revered as a cornerstone in the architecture of modern horror cinema.
