Stefano Vanzina, better known as Steno, was an iconic Italian director born in Rome, Italy in 1917. He had an active filmmaking career from the mid-1940s until the late 1980s, mainly focusing on the comedy genre, with his most famous films including "An American in Rome" and "February 29", which were widely acclaimed both in Italy and internationally. Despite not having won major awards at film festivals, Steno's distinctive authorial style, featuring a blend of slapstick humor and social satire, has made his films enduring classics in Italian cinema. Steno, with his signature wit and sharp observation of Italian society, was a maestro at turning the ordinary into extraordinary comedy.
