Takahisa Zeze

Renowned for his distinct vision in Japanese cinema, Takahisa Zeze was born in 1960 in Kashihara, Nara, Japan. He began his career in the late 1980s, directing films primarily in the pink film genre, with notable works including "A Gap in the Skin" and "Tokyo X Erotica," however, he transitioned towards more mainstream and critically acclaimed dramas like "Heaven's Story" and "The Promised Land," the latter earning him the Japan Academy Prize in 2021. Zeze's authorial style is marked by his exploration of human sexuality and complex emotions, often utilizing surreal and dreamlike imagery to communicate his narratives.
