Teinosuke Kinugasa

A pioneer of Japanese cinema, Teinosuke Kinugasa was born in 1896 in Wakayama, Japan. Known for his work in the genres of drama, history, and romance, Kinugasa actively directed films from 1922 to 1966, with notable works including "A Page of Madness" and "Gate of Hell," the latter of which claimed the Palme d'Or at the Cannes Film Festival and an Academy Honorary Award. His authorial style is known for its avant-garde and surrealistic elements, often departing from the traditional narrative structure.
