A maverick of the New German Cinema, Ulli Lommel was born in 1944 in Zielenzig, Germany (now Sulecin, Poland) and was an active filmmaker from 1967 until his death in 2017. He worked predominantly in the horror and crime genres, with his most renowned films being "The Tenderness of Wolves" (1973) and "The Boogeyman" (1980), although he never received major awards at prominent film festivals. Lommel's directorial style was characterized by his ability to blend elements of B-movie horror with true crime stories, often resulting in chilling and surreal cinematic experiences.
