Dubbed as a master storyteller and a keen observer of contemporary China, Yang Zhang was born in 1967 in Beijing, China. His directorial career spans from the late 1990s to the present and he has mostly concentrated on the drama genre, with notable films like 'Shower' (1999), 'Getting Home' (2007), and 'Up the Mountain' (2019). His film 'Shower' won the FIPRESCI Prize at the Toronto International Film Festival and his unique authorial style is characterized by a delicate balance of humor and pathos, often exploring the complexities of human relationships against the backdrop of rapidly changing Chinese society.
