The master of Japanese animated cinema, Yoshifumi Kondo, was born in 1950 in Gosen, Niigata, Japan. Kondo was active from 1973 until his untimely death in 1998, and during his prolific career, he was known for his work in the anime genre, with "Whisper of the Heart" being one of his most famous films. Though not a regular feature at major film festivals, his distinctive style, marked by its detailed and naturalistic depiction of everyday life, made his work deeply influential in the anime world.
