Maddie makes progress in group and wins back her phone privileges, but easily manipulates Charlotte into covering for her while she throws Zach a surprise party–where Maddie is the one who is surprised by the temptations facing her while she tries to protect her sobriety. Vern has stars in his eyes when residents of a costly beachside rehab facility move into Springtime Meadows for the weekend. Flashbacks provide insight into how Cynthia fought with Vern, her best friend, to get him to seek treatment for his addiction.
