Danny confesses to Kate that he's lost his job. Kate reacts by being more proactive at work. Michael finds himself feeling inspired and works on a new graphic novel, a memoir based on his childhood. Ryan opens up to Michael and tells him he wants to get back together, but Michael feels uncertain. To make up for his mistakes, Danny plans a last minute surprise engagement party that just might be the last straw for Kate.
